Business administration student Amelia Gjermeni writes an impassioned plea in which she asks for support for the earthquake victims in her native Albania.

Hi everyone,

My name is Amelia Gjermeni, I am a student at the SRH University in Heidelberg. The reason why I am writing today is because an unfortunate cause has happened in Albania (where I am originally from). There have been multiple earthquakes over the last 10 hours. The biggest one was with a magnitude 6.4, which caused the most damages in a lot of cities, mainly in Tirana and Durres. At least 20 people have died, 28 have been pulled alive from the rubble and 600 hundred more are recorded injured until now. Several buildings have collapsed and have left residents buried in the rubble. Kids and old people who couldn´t get out in time have been recorded dead or even not found yet. A lot of people have lost their homes. This is also because almost two months ago the same thing happened and the buildings which were previously damaged now have totally collapsed. Now this is a natural cause that we cannot do anything about it, but what we can do is help them.

Everyone is trying to do their best. I myself have donated and also my family, who is in Albania, are trying to shelter some people as many as they can or at least give them a hot meal. Hundreds of people are in need of food, a place to stay, or even clothes because they have literally lost everything. We are trying as much as we can to shelter people, offer them to eat or even some clothing because most of them are again going to sleep outside. Also some people helped with building tents for them in a big spacious place in the centre of Tirana, where there are no buildings nearby. Another thing we did to help is open a GoFundMe page where people from all over the world can donate money. We need help. As soon as possible and as much as anyone can. Even 10 euros can make a huge difference. The people who lost their homes barely had one and now that even what they had is collapsed they have literally nothing. Please help or at least try to share the news or the donation link to as many people as you can. Innocent people are suffering and they have to spend their nights outside in the cold. Schools in the country have been closed and flights are suspended form the Tirana airport. There are children who lost their parents, and others who can´t get in contact with each other. We are not sure if it is going to happen again, even though we are hoping it will not, but just to be safe we are trying to keep people safe outside houses and buildings.

If anyone can help please do. Remember you´re saving a life and making a difference. Thank you to everyone for taking time to read this, and thank you to everyone who showed at least a little bit effort to help.

Your help is what we need right now. Forward this message to your contacts to help this campaign reach its goal!
